Dainty Debutantes: Female Novelty Pianists of the 1930s Rivermont BSW-1149
Released May 5, 2009
Dainty Debutantes may be the snappy title of this collection of scintillating rhythmic piano solos, but it's hardly descriptive of the young women responsible for the toe-tapping, driving virtuosity that fills these performances. These ladies of syncopation were considerably better schooled technically, and more imaginative in their arranging abilities, than the vast majority of their male counterparts. This CD, selected and annotated by novelty piano expert Alex Hassan, showcases a wide array of feminine digital talent with most of the selections appearing on compact disc for the first time. Recorded 1931-1938. 79 minutes.
