Ethan Uslan (pronounced "Yoo-slin") grew up in South Orange, New Jersey and later studied classical piano at Indiana University. During his college days, he accompanied "Full Frontal Comedy," an improv-comedy troupe that staged live improvised musicals based on audience suggestions. After graduating from college, Ethan found his way to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he currently lives with his wife Kate and baby son Benjamin. Ethan is a recipient of the North Carolina Regional Artists Grant and won first place at the 2007 World Championship Old-Time Piano Playing Contest (Peoria, Illinois). Ethan has performed at various venues and festivals nationwide, including the Scott Joplin International Ragtime Festival (Sedalia, MO) and Garrison Keillor's public radio program A Prairie Home Companion. He performs regularly in the Charlotte area and beyond for private events, concerts, and silent movie screenings. In addition to performing, Ethan serves as visiting lecturer of music at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, and teaches piano privately. For this Carolina-themed CD, Ethan brilliantly executes his unique interpretations of rags, cakewalks, songs, and novelties from the 1890s-2000s. Recorded 2006. 68 minutes.
